Reflection on my project plan

Hi all,

I would like to share how the actions of my project have been attempted through this post.
Clost the Gap Day Campaigning action will be reflected in this blog and the project with Inala Community will be reflected in the next blog.

This project's aim was to encourage a collective action on National level by encouraging community members to hold an even on 25th of March at their school, workplace, or other networking space.

My actions for pre, on the day, and post event included;

- Promotion of the event to community members in Qld through e-mails, phone calls, and flyer drops.

- Liaison with community members to assist them to hold an event.

- Keeping updated record of people who have/have not registerd, and send reminder/follow-up e-mails to the latter group of people.

- Producing a comprehensive project outline to be shared with supervior, as well as other volunteers.

- Directly engaging with two National Close The Day events at University of Queensland

- Liaise with States and National campaigners to creat a feedback process, and conduct a phone interviews with some Qld event organisers to get in-depth feedback.

Some of the skills and techniques that were developmed through engaging the actions mentioned above are;

- Data collection.

- Role Modelling (by showing fellow students how they can take a collective action with this particular issue through signing a petition, and writing a letter to PM).

- Priotisation and decision-making skills (based on the schedule leading up to the event, deciding on which event I will be engaging).

- Teamwork, intra and inter-disciplinary team skills (clear and continuous communication with the supervisor, other volunteers, and members of Oxfam UQ to make sure everyone is on the same page).

- Negotiating entry to the community or group (through approaching lecturers and fellow students to hold an event during a tutorial class at University).

Some of the challenges I faced through the process

- Producing a project outline that is comprehensive to everyone (Modification was continuously made to fit my project aim)

- Coming up with a more pro-active language when approaching stake holders to promote the event.

- Approaching cafes, bookshops, and other relevant places asking them to display the promotion flyers.

- Getting out of my comfort zone and approaching students to promote the issue during the event hel by Oxfam UQ.

Being a case management worker at current work place, calling for a collective action to influence government's polity is quite different experience as a beginning social worker. This macro approach of social work broadened my mind, and made me realise various levels of roles a social worker can take when working towards a just society.
